Basionym: Nitzschia granii Hasle
Forms stepped chains and observed as single cells in Phaeocystis colonies. Two chloroplasts, one in each end, are seen in the cells. The cells are lanceolate to needle shaped with elongated cell ends in valve view, and are linear in girdle view. The middle part of the valve is almost three times as wide as closer to ends. The valves have an eccentric raphe and lack a central nodule, Almost 2.5 times more interstriae than fibulae. Each stria has one row of poroids, each poroid comprise several sectors. A cingulum with three bands.
Apical axis (heteropolar) 25-79 µm, transapical axis 1.5-2.0 µm, 17-20 fibulae and 50 interstriae in 10 µm, 6-7 poroids in 1 µm.
P. granii can be confused with P. subcurvata and P. galaxiae as they are all narrow needle-like Pseudo-nitzschia taxa, but they have different biogeographical distributions.
